0 Mad Cow alert the American Meat


Bandung - West Java should be aware of the circulation of beef from the United Statesare indicated as Mad Cow disease. Although the government has imposed a ban onbeef imports from the superpowers, but the supply of viscera such as the U.S. interest inIndonesia for making meatballs.

Head of Department of Animal Husbandry of West Java, Koesmayadi said in 2011about 357 950 cattle are cut in West Java. The cows were from the local (29.51%), localnational (53.82%) and imports (16.8%).

"Despite the small number of imported cattle, but we remain alert so as not to missed.American beef is usually orders of hotels," he said.

He explains the beef import rules which do not include the country of origin of meat could make it confusion. Therefore, the findings reported in the field is difficult because of lack of data on country of origin of beef. Koesmayadi pleaded not too worried because beefincluding secondary needs that can be substituted with chicken or fish.

"The need for beef reached 79 395 head / year but can be covered with chickenbecause production reached 492 534 tons / year," he said.

Meanwhile, the Observer Husbandry from the University of Padjadjaran (Unpad)Rochadi Tawaf states of West Java still need to be aware of the entry of cattle from the United States are indicated as Mad Cow disease. The problem, though the governmenthas banned but the need for imports of beef offal is still quite high.

"Offal much needed beef industry players such as the meatball-making and other food,"he said.

Rochadi further said that the import quota of 30,000 tonnes of meat that just makesAustralia transferred to the U.S. market. This clearly would be detrimental to Indonesiawhich has traditionally received supplies of beef from Australia.

"People do not worry because the beef was supplied from the local and only 20% from abroad," he said.
